World Cup Qualifiers 2023: Super Six
Which Teams Qualified For The Super Six?
Fiercely contested group stage matches proved to be just a confirmation of what was being murmured in the cricketing world, that the sport is growing in leaps and bounds, and the gap between full member nations and associate nations is, thankfully, growing smaller by the year.
Ask Ireland, red hot favourites to make it to the super six stage from Group B, who were outplayed by Oman. Meaning that from Group B Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Oman progressed to the super six stage.
Group A also had it's own twists. From the onset, West Indies, Zimbabwe, and Netherlands were the favourites to make it out... and they all did, but very few would have predicted the order in which they progressed.
West Indies could only manage third place and go into the super six stage with two defeats, to Zimbabwe and Netherlands. Meaning they essentially need nothing short of a miracle to qualify for the world cup.
As it stands the super six teams are as follows:
Zimbabwe, Netherlands, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Scotland, and Oman.
Favourites
A combination of playing pedigree and a points head start make Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka the favourites to progress to the grand event to be hosted in India at the end of the year.
For Zimbabwe, playing on home soil has been an advantage. They've also had the extra advantage of the twelfth man, the unbelievable crowd that never seemed to lose it's voice. For Sri Lanka, no one seems to have solved their spin puzzle yet. Hasaranga blitzed through the group staged and his effort may see his team through to the finals of the qualifiers.
Dark Horse
It has to be the Dutch.
Netherlands have gone about their business quietly, yet they have rewritten their record books twice already within the four matches they've played.
First, they matched their highest ODI score of 315 in their first Group A match against Zimbabwe. As if that was not enough, they went on to successfully chase down 374 against West Indies.
Surely, if they can do it against West Indies they definitely can do it against anyone.
